So I'm 16 and am considering my automotive options. Here's my potential plan:
1) buy early 2000s Honda Civic, with manual
2) get bored with civic, buy p71
3) use p71 as beater, get 2005-2009 Mustang GT, also manual
4) TBD
Good plan or bad plan?

Skip the Honda, P71s make great first cars.

Well, over how many years? If you're going to have the two car fleet at around 21-22, with either money saved up or college done (depending on your path), then yeah, decent plan. If you're getting to step 4 by age 18...dumb plan that wastes a lot of money.

1) buy 2000 civic
2) pass it to your children when you die

You're from Ontario, aren't you? If you're in Toronto, it should be probably is:
1) Realize you'll get ass-raped on insurance.
2) Beats the shit out of someone elses cars for a couple of years.
Not trying to discourage you, just making an observation... if you can really afford it all the more power to yah. Just be sure of that fact first.

yea, thats what you think. insurance in ONT = ass-rape.
also, civics are one of the most stolen cars, so that will be one of the highest insurance rates you can get. look for an altima or a manual rolla instead

Yup. If at all possible, have someone older be the primary driver on the car you're using. Even at 24 my insurance rates still border in ridiculous.

Honda insurance will be $$$. If I had it to do over again, I would have bought a Jeep XJ as a high school car and waited until I got into a career to buy a fun car. Whatever you buy, ask yourself these three questions:
Am I going to be sad if some knob in a parking lot dents my door?
Am I going to be mad when some idiot is parking-by-Braille behind me?
Will I spend all my money trying to keep it alive?
Back to the XJ: they're cheaper than dirt, the aftermarket is insane, other people already found the weaknesses for you, you can drive them all year without fear, it's a wagon you can get with 4x4 and a stick (ultimate Jalop-mobile), and unless you light it on fire, it won't die. Also, if it does get a little beat up, it's a Jeep so it's cooler!

1) No.
2) Yes. Move to step 1.
3) No. Have higher aspirations.
4) See step 3.
